Overview

Accounting Technicians Ireland Level 5 Diploma is the first step in your journey towards a new and fulfilling career as an Accounting Technician. In the first year, you will acquire the essential skills needed to perform fundamental accounting tasks in the workplace. Upon successfully completing Year 1, you will progress to Year 2, where you will continue your studies and develop more advanced accountancy skills to further enhance your expertise in the field.

This course is designed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge, and competencies required to secure a position as an Accounting Technician in industry or accountancy practice.

Year 1 - Subjects taken
- Business Management
- Business Law
- Tax
- Financial Accounting

You will also complete 4 Work-Based Assessments throughout the year. In addition, online Excel lessons are provided by
ATI, with an examination held in January. Upon successful completion of Year 1, you will progress to Year 2.

Year 2 - Subjects taken
- Management Accounting
- Advanced Tax
- Advanced Financial Accounting
- Finance Data Management
You will also complete 4 Work-Based Assessments throughout the year. In addition, online Excel lessons are provided by
ATI, with an examination held in January.
The assessment method for both Year 1 and Year 2 is 100% external examination.
All exams are conducted online and take place in May.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and meet the minimum entry criteria set by the awarding body, Accounting Technicians Ireland, which is:

• A minimum of Grade B Maths and C English at GCSE

• 96 UCAS Points

Mature students (21 years old and over), who do not hold the required minimum educational requirements, may still apply based on qualifications, experience and employer recommendation.

External examination.

Upon successful completion of the course, this pathway offers you the opportunity to progress to professional
accountancy qualifications.

One progression route available at SWC Omagh is the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) HLA or part-time pathway. The ACCA Qualification is the world’s leading accountancy qualification for aspiring financial professionals, equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and values needed to build successful careers and lead the organisations they work with into the future. Completing the ACCA Qualification will make you a fully qualified accountant, enabling you
to establish your own accountancy firm, become a partner in an existing firm, or secure senior accounting roles. Holding the ATI qualification provides the opportunity to apply for four exam exemptions.

Exemptions are also available for the exams of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and
Chartered Accountants Ireland (ACA). In addition, students have the option to progress to the degree of BSc Accounting
Technologist.

Employment is an integral part of this course, providing students with on-the-job training that provides valuable employability skills for their future career. Upon successful interview, you will be employed with a company (based in Northern Ireland) for four days a week while attending college one day a week for the duration of this course. Students who gain a place on this course will be registered as a student member of Accounting Technicians Ireland.
